ROOTY HILL MOSQUE HISTORY
The project to purchase the land at Rooty Hill NSW was initiated by a small group of Pakistani families in around 1986. Progressively they went on to form the IAWSS - Islamic Association Western Suburbs Sydney.
The IAWSS became only the third Islamic organisation in NSW to purchase land.
Rooty Hill Mosque from 1986-2000
In 1986 The Mosque began with;
- 50 year old house in an isolated piece of land
- Overgrown trees, bushes, grass and dirt covered harsh landscape
- No bathroom facilities or even water for wudu, then makeshift wudu area was built
- No fence around property
- Subject to vandalism and no security
- Many challenges from Councils, Health Dept, Maintainence & Financial hardship
- More than 10 years of non-development or construction
Rooty Hill Mosque Construction from 2001-2003
